CATHEDRAL CLERGY AND MUSIC STAFF
The Rev. Canon Heather Patton-Graham, Canon Residentiary and Provost, and Chaplain,
St. Andrew's Schools Ordained to the priesthood in 2003, Patton-Graham is a priest who loves to teach. Growing up in Dover, DE, the daughter of two educators, the rhythm of life for her was shaped by two things: the school calendar and the church calendar. By the time she graduated from Dover High School, she had begun to sense a call to ministry. Attending the University of Delaware, Heather earned a B. A. in American Studies with a concentration in Black American Studies, however, it was her deep engagement in Episcopal Campus Ministry which solidified her call to the priesthood and set her on the road to seminary and ordination. While earning her M.Div. from General Theological Seminary, Patton-Graham had the opportunity to proctor all the scripture classes when she was a senior, truly opening the door to teaching and formation for her. She completed an honor’s degree while at General and served as Chief Sacristan of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. Her field placement internship at St. Bartholomew’s and her work at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine offered dimension and texture to her experiences of liturgy and liturgical planning, design, and leadership. Before arriving at the Diocese of Hawai'i, Patton-Graham served in large parishes, as well as Episcopal schools in DE, PA, and DC; while in DC, she also served at Washington National Cathedral, in conjunction with her chaplaincy at St. Albans School. She has led adult formation workshops and classes and Diocesan trainings, mission camps for adults, families, and youth, as well as youth retreats and camps, and many, many more lock-ins than she can even count. Her life in schools has also been robust; she has taught all levels and led Chapels for students from Pre-K through 12th grade She and her family moved to Hawai‘i in 2016, as she joined the Chaplaincy at ‘Iolani School. She and her husband, Alexander (Sandy), have an adult daughter, Kathleen, currently a graduate student studying Shakespeare and Performance. |
