School Supplies Collection Campaign for
Kalihi Waena Elementary School
As a child, our return to school was very different. We had vacation right through Labor Day. On Tuesday, the day after, all teachers had meetings. Then, all students returned to school on the first Wednesday of September. We were ready for school. We were pretty tired of playing & riding our bicycles around.
Academic scholars have determined that students lose too much academic knowledge if their summer vacation is too long. Therefore, school years now begin much earlier. At Kalihi Waena Elementary School, we need to gear up and be ready to host over 400 students on Tuesday, August 4th.
Some students will arrive with the supplies they need. But, for teachers to present an academic activity for the whole class, they need to have enough tools for all students. In order for the school year to truly begin, schools need the academic tools for all the academic subjects.
We on the Outreach Committee would like to start an in-gathering that supports the students and teachers right from the opening day of this school year. If we can start the school year right from the first morning, the students will know, "Oh, we're really going to learn this year."

The Outreach Committee of the Cathedral of St. Andrew has been organizing a School Supplies Collection Campaign for Kalihi Waena Elementary School every July since the early 2000's. During these summer months, please keep your eyes open for good sales on supplies for academic work, stocking the classrooms, and for providing footwear for our students. The Cathedral will have plastic bins available to receive your donations starting Sunday, July 5!
To support these students, donations can include:
Composition books (wide ruled)
Plastic School Boxes
Pens, Pencils, and Erasers
Crayons and Colored Pencils
Glue Sticks and White Glue
Scissors
Dry Erase Markers (Fine and Broad Point)
Liquid Hand Soap
Paper Towels
